Shimla: Heavy Rains Lash Himachal, Temps Drop Below Normal
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Himachal Pradesh will continue to reel under moderate to heavy rainfall today and tomorrow as weather systems remain active over north India.Here’s a crisp English version of your two alerts:
In the next 6 hours, Chamba and Kangra districts are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy to very heavy rain at a few locations.
In the next 6 hours, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una districts are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy rain at one or two locations.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, the monsoon trough is currently passing through Bikaner, Churu, Guna, Jabalpur, and Keonjhargarh, extending up to the northwest Bay of Bengal.
A fresh upper air cyclonic circulation over south Haryana and a Western Disturbance over north Kashmir are also influencing the state’s weather.
Heavy showers lashed several districts on Tuesday morning. Dharamshala (52.3 mm), Kukumseri (55.2 mm), Una (49 mm), Manali (47 mm), and Nahan (46.7 mm) recorded significant rainfall.
Bhuntar and Sarahan too received 47 mm rainfall each, while Solan, Palampur, and Kasauli witnessed downpours ranging between 24–40 mm.
Temperatures across Himachal have fallen markedly below normal, with Keylong shivering at 5.9°C, the coldest in the state, while Hamirpur recorded the highest at 27.2°C.
Day temperatures in Una, Mandi, Kangra, and Bilaspur were 7–10°C below normal, pointing towards an unusual chill for September.
The IMD has cautioned that heavy to very heavy rainfall may continue in parts of Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, and Sirmaur, raising concerns of landslides and flash floods today and on September 3 in few places.
Residents have been advised to remain alert and avoid travel on vulnerable hill roads.
