Relenting Monsoon Brings Relief to Farmers, Road Restoration Gains Pace

Shimla, Sept 8: With the monsoon rains finally relenting, apple, vegetable, and other farmers across Himachal Pradesh are breathing a sigh of relief. The lull in downpour is expected to speed up the restoration of battered roads, helping growers dispatch whatever little produce is left in their orchards and fields to mandis.

 

According to the IMD, scattered rainfall was recorded at several places in the past 24 hours. Mandi (41 mm), Gohar (40 mm), Nahan (35.4 mm), Paonta Sahib (30.8 mm), Narkanda (24.5 mm), Sarahan (20.5 mm), Manali (12 mm), Bajaura (6 mm), and Sainj (NA data) received significant showers.

 

District-wise weather snapshot:

 

Shimla: 16.4°C min, 21.7°C max, 1.6 mm rain

 

Mandi: 21.6°C min, 30.0°C max, 41 mm rain

 

Kullu (Bhuntar/Manali/Bajaura): Bhuntar 18.8°C min, 30.3°C max, 2.2 mm rain; Manali 15.5°C min, 22.7°C max, 12 mm rain; Bajaura 21.4°C min, 31.8°C max, 6 mm rain

 

Kinnaur (Kalpa/Reckong Peo): Kalpa 12.5°C min, 22.9°C max, 0.1 mm rain; Reckong Peo 16.2°C min, 27.1°C max, 0.5 mm rain

 

Lahaul-Spiti (Keylong/Kukumseri/Tabo): Keylong 9.9°C min, 19.3°C max, 3 mm rain; Kukumseri 9.6°C min, 21.1°C max, 0.3 mm rain; Tabo 10.4°C min, 33.8°C max, dry

 

Una: 21.6°C min, 32.2°C max, dry

 

Solan: 20.2°C min, 28°C max, dry

 

Bilaspur: 23.2°C min, 34.5°C max, dry

 

Hamirpur: 22.8°C min, 29.2°C max, dry

 

Chamba: 19.4°C min, 26°C max, 2 mm rain

 

Kangra (Dharamshala/Palampur): Dharamshala 17°C min, 28.1°C max, dry; Palampur 17.5°C min, 27.5°C max, trace rain

 

Sirmaur (Nahan/Paonta Sahib): Nahan 20.4°C min, 28.1°C max, 35.4 mm rain; Paonta Sahib 24°C min, 34°C max, 30.8 mm rain

 

 

The highest temperature was recorded at Bilaspur (34.5°C), while Kukumseri (9.6°C) remained the coldest.

 

IMD has forecast scattered rain with isolated thunderstorm/lightning activity over the next few days.

 

For farmers in the apple belt and vegetable zones, this break is crucial to clear blocked roads and send their produce to market before further losses mount.
