SHIMLA: The team from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow won the 3rd HPNLU National Moot Court Competition. The team from Shastra Deemed University, Thanjavur was adjudged as the runners-up.
A Seven-Judge Bench of the Moot court headed by Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court gave its verdict after assessing the participants of Final Oral Rounds of the Competition that took place in the campus here on Sunday.
The two days long Moot Court Contest was organised by Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla in association with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) from 28th to 30th October 2022 in HPNLU campus in Shimla.
The seven judges bench of the moot Court comprised of Mr. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sandeep Sharma, Justice Satyan Vaidya, Justice Virender Singh- all are the Judge of High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
Other judges included Ajay Kochchar, President, Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh, I.N. Mehta, Advocate, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, and Prof. (Dr.) Kulwant Singh, Professor of Law, University of Jammu.
The competition continued for over two hours.
After extensive grilling on part of the judges, the team from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University, Lucknow was adjudged as the winner.
The team from Shastra Deemed University, Thanjavur was adjudged as the runners-up.
The award for the Best Speaker (Male) was bagged by Mr. Harsh Rana from University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University.
The award for the Best Speaker (Female) was bagged by Ms. Muthu Srinithi R, from Shastra Deemed University, Thanjavur.
The University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University was awarded the prize for Best Memorial on behalf of the Petitioner and the Law College Dehradun, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun was awarded the prize for Best Memorial on behalf of the Respondent.
The award for Best Researcher was bagged by the Faculty of Law, Law Centre – I, University of Delhi.
The awards were conferred by the Judges of the High Court during the Valedictory Ceremony.
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, the Chief Guest and Justice Sandeep Sharma was the Guest of Honour.
The Moot Court Committee, represented through the Student Convener, Ms. Ankita and with her abled team of students under the guidance of Dr Chandreshwari Minhas and Dr Chandrika contributed in the successful organisation of competition.
Prof. S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU, Shimla presented vote of thanks during the Valedictory Session.
The associate partner, NHRC, as a statutory body is responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights in India.
The event was organised under the abled leadership of Vice-Chancellor, (Professor) Dr. Nishtha Jaswal.
It is overseen by Dr. Santosh Kumar Sharma, Chairperson, Moot Court Committee, HPNLU Shimla along with other faculty members.
