Kaza(Lahaul-Spiti): In a gripping tale of survival beneath the towering Chandra-Bhaga mountain in Lahaul-Spiti, five daring tourists found themselves stranded for two days on the treacherous Kaza-Batal-Gramphu snowy road.
Their escapade began when they defied local advice and embarked on the challenging Kaza-Losar-Kunjam Pass route on December 17, navigating the perilous terrain in their Fortuner vehicle.
As fate would have it, the relentless snowfall and icy road conditions proved too formidable for their journey.
The vehicle skidded perilously near Batal, dangerously close to the edge of the road at an altitude of 12,500 feet.
A brush with tragedy awaited them as their Fortuner hung precariously, narrowly avoiding a plunge into the unforgiving Chandra gorge.
Undeterred by the life-threatening situation, the stranded tourists made a desperate escape from their vehicle and sought refuge in the Batal rest house. Braving the frigid cold, they broke into a rest house to shield themselves from the elements.
Meanwhile, dedicated rescue teams from the district administration, defying challenging weather conditions, undertook a mission to reach the stranded group.
Today, against all odds, the rescue teams successfully located the tourists and brought them to safety, bringing an end to their misadventure.
This heart-stopping saga serves as a poignant reminder of the unpredictable challenges that nature can present, as well as the resilience and heroism displayed by those who risk their lives to save others in the face of adversity.
