NSG and Himachal Police Successfully Conduct Joint Counter-Terrorism Exercise in Kullu and Kasol
Manali: The National Security Guard (NSG), India's elite counter-terrorism force, in collaboration with Himachal Police and various state government agencies, successfully concluded a joint counter-terrorism mock exercise in Kullu and Kasol from 28-30 August 2024.
The exercise was aimed at testing and enhancing the preparedness of multiple stakeholders involved in responding to critical situations, particularly in sensitive locations across Kullu district. It served as a crucial opportunity to streamline coordination and improve inter-operability between the NSG and Himachal Police.
The drill simulated various high-risk scenarios, including active shooting in built-up areas, hostage negotiation and rescue operations, suicide attacks, sniper incidents, abduction of high-value targets and tourists, activation of green corridors, drone surveillance, post-operation searches, and bomb detection and disposal.
The exercise saw the participation of 17 NSG officers and 150 personnel from its Counter-Terror Task Force, alongside over 200 members of Himachal Police, ITBP, Bomb Disposal Teams, Quick Response Teams, Home Guards, SDRF, Kullu district administration, fire and emergency services, and health teams.
A debriefing session was held on 30 August 2024, where nodal officers from all participating agencies discussed the lessons learned.
The focus was on improving operational preparedness and capabilities, ensuring a comprehensive, synchronized, and effective counter-terror response by state agencies in Himachal Pradesh.
