Speaking at the Road Safety Award Ceremony in Shimla, he highlighted the alarming statistics of nearly six accidents and two deaths every day in Himachal Pradesh.
Despite the challenges posed by the hilly terrain, the state is committed to proactive measures and education to ensure safety on its roads.
The governor commended the initiatives of the police department in honoring citizens who contribute to road safety, aiming to inspire others to follow suit.
With an average of 450 vehicles registered daily, the surge in tourism has led to increased traffic, especially during weekends and peak seasons.
Efforts from various departments including the police, transport, and public works have led to a significant reduction in accidents, deaths, and injuries in 2023 compared to 2022.
This decline of 13 percent in accidents, 14 percent in deaths, and 18 percent in injuries is a positive step towards enhancing road safety.
During the ceremony, the governor honored police personnel, officials from the Public Works and Transport Department, and others for their outstanding contributions.
Additionally, a new road safety song was released by the police department to raise awareness among the public.
Sanjay Kundu, the Director General of Police, highlighted the department's efforts in reducing road accidents by identifying black spots and adopting modern tools.
The event also featured presentations on road accidents in Himachal Pradesh and a vote of thanks from Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order Abhishek Trivedi.
