Himachal Pradesh Braces for Monsoon Showers Starting June 29. Here is how it will  march in the state..

Shimla, June 27— The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the arrival of monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh beginning on June 29.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance into the region over the next 2-3 days, promising a shift from the current warm spell to more comfortable and rainy conditions.

 Weather Systems Influencing Monsoon:

Western Disturbance: A trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, active at about 5.8 km above sea level along Longitude 64°E and north of Latitude 28°N, is contributing to favorable conditions for monsoon advancement.

-Cyclonic Circulation: Persisting over northwest Rajasthan and its neighborhood, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, further aids the monsoon’s progress.

Recent Weather Observations (as of June 27, 2024):

- Shimla:Minimum temperature of 17.5°C, with trace rainfall recorded.

Una:Notable rainfall of 14.4 mm, with the temperature at 20°C.

- Palampur:Received 19.6 mm of rain and recorded a minimum temperature of 18.5°C.

- Kukumseri in Lahaul:Registered the state’s lowest temperature at 7.2°C.

Dharamshala:Experienced a significant dip in temperature to 20.9°C and 2.6 mm of rain.

Kangra: Rainfall of 20.8 mm with a minimum temperature of 21.6°C.

**Upcoming Weather Forecast:

- **June 29 - July 1:** Light to moderate rainfall is expected across the state, marking the onset of the monsoon.

- **July 2 - July 5:** Rainfall is likely to intensify, with some regions potentially experiencing heavy showers.

Regional Impact:

- **Lower Himachal:** Areas such as Una, Kangra, and Mandi are likely to receive moderate to heavy rains, which will be beneficial for agricultural activities but may also pose risks of localized flooding and landslides.

- **Middle Himachal:** Towns including Shimla, Solan, and Palampur can expect consistent rains, leading to cooler temperatures and a reduction in the current dry spell.

- **Higher Himachal:** Regions like Keylong and Kukumseri will see a mix of rain and possibly cooler temperatures but should remain vigilant for potential disruptions due to landslides.

Residents are advised to:

- **Prepare for Rain:** Carry umbrellas and raincoats, and ensure that drainage systems are clear to avoid waterlogging.

- **Travel Safely:** Exercise caution when traveling, as heavy rains may lead to slippery roads and landslides.

- **Stay Informed:** Regularly check weather updates and advisories from the IMD for any changes in the forecast.
