Save Lahaul-Spiti Society (SLS)Joins Leh-Delhi Climate March, Boosts Ladakhis' Spirits...
KEYLONG: in a heartening show of solidarity, the Save Lahaul-Spiti Society, an NGO of people of the tribal belt, has joined the ongoing Leh-Delhi 1000 km climate march, giving a big morale boost to the Ladakhi marchers.
The march, led by renowned Ladakhi innovator Sonam Wangchuk, entered Lahaul-Spiti 3 days ago, with the group reaching Jispa Valley and Tandi, confluence of Chandra and Bhaga rivers today.
The people of Lahaul-Spiti gave them a warm welcome, celebrating their arrival and standing in support of their cause.
The Himachal Pradesh government, showing its commitment to the cause, instructed the local administration in Lahaul-Spiti to provide medical care and other necessary facilities to all the marchers as long as they continue in Himachal’s territory.
A team of doctors examined everyone, including Sonam Wangchuk, and found them in good health, ensuring they are fit for the rest of their journey.
Expressing his gratitude, Sonam Wangchuk thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing the support they had received during this challenging trek.
He also highlighted the lack of medical care and other provisions from the UT administration of Ladakh during their march through the region's highland passes.
"The people of Himachal have truly stood by us," Wangchuk said, "supporting our fight for the protection of Ladakh under the 6th Schedule status, which is crucial to preserve our territory from rampant commercialization and ecological damage."
One notable interaction during the march was between Sonam Wangchuk and Ajay, a popular poet from Lahaul-Spiti and a member of the Save Lahaul-Spiti Society.
They shared stories and insights on life in the region while siting in a pea farm in creating a memorable connection during this significant march.
Ajay joined the march for the stretch from Darcha to Tandi and Sumnam, while another member of the SLS, Sachin Mirupa, has committed to accompanying the group all the way to Delhi.
The march is set to continue across the Rohtang Tunnel, making its way through Manali and Kullu in the coming days, furthering the cause of Ladakhi people and raising awareness about the melting glaciers and threats to their natural resources.
They have sought safe guards against the onslaught from outside and demanding protection under the Sixth Schedule as promised by the BJP in its manifesto for Ladakh.
